One of my dreams – for a very long time, has been to walk the earth. While in part it literally means to walk on the ground around the globe, I’ll obviously have to use other forms of transportation besides my feet! “Walking The Earth” for me means getting out of your comfort-zone and doing different things. Experience different people, cultures, places and food around the world. This voyage that I have began is the realization of that dream; maybe not its complete fulfillment, but at least the beginning of it. I would need more than 6 months to fulfill it completely:)
While this is an important moment for me, I know that the bond I have created with various people’s during my lifetime are what actually makes life worth living. As such, I will try to create a video per-country of me, simply, “Walking The Earth.” I will do this in an effort to simultaneously create a video diary of my travels for myself when I am old, but more importantly, for me to feel like I’m not alone on this journey. It is the same reason I decided to start this blog.
I hope you guys enjoy it as I’ll enjoy making them. For the curious, I will be making the videos just like I’ve created the first one: a GoPro Hero5 Black and an iPhone 8 Plus. That’s it. I originally intended on using my laptop as well, but very quickly I realized that an almost 5lbs. laptop is not your best friend on your back. I edited the entire video on the iPhone using iMovie. This means I will be at the mercy of the actual capabilities of these devices without access to color-grading and other cool tricks. Apologies in advance for when I shoot video on low light. As you’ll see, I can’t control the lack of light when it rains! I’ve also been blogging from the iPhone but I still double-check how things look like on a desktop. At some point, when I send the laptop back home, my blogs may start to look weird on the desktop. Apologies in advance for that as well:)
I don’t want to wonder when I’m old about the things I could’ve done.
Back to the topic at hand. A song that has really resonated with me, that I’ve only recently found is: One Day by Asaf Avidan. Lyrically, I mainly like the song for “One day baby, we’ll be old. Oh baby, we’ll be old. And think of all the stories we could have told.” I’m choosing to interpret the song with a relationship between myself and my physical existence. Without getting into metaphysics, I’ll just say that the song reminds me to do things now, not tomorrow. I don’t want to wonder when I’m old about the things I could’ve done.
As such, for now, I’m considering that song the soundtrack for my trip and to make my video-making-life easier, I will use it for all of the “Walking The Earth” videos. But if you have suggestions on what song to use, I’m all ears. Note: I’m not too worried about copyright licensing as I will not be monetizing the videos. So, youtube says it’s fine:)
I will be posting the first video shortly: “Walking New Zealand”
